Hello Patient Reader.
WELL, Week Two seems to be moving along, and I in stride with it so far, touch wood . . .
My art class, well, I mean the first one, and by that I mean the first class on Mondays (and Wednesdays), is very . . . messy. Ever work with Sumi ink? Blackest ink I've ever seen, and though I haven't visited Wikipedia, I suspect that it is the ink the Japanese use in the calligraphic arts . . . I'll look it up later, though I know a few hundred of you already have it up, possibly even before you finish reading this sentence . . .?
We're taking the ideas of lines; lines of all kinds (including curvilinear and such non-line lines), that one finds on maps. Pick a map, any map, and you'll a-see whudda mean.
I chose a map (a public domain jpeg I found on Google) of NYC as it was in 1842. It shows all of Lower Manhattan, the East River and the northern section of Brooklyn. It's very well-rendered. Anyway, the island and the tip of Brooklyn provide a beautiful curvilinear space within which it is easy to work, and of course all of the streets provide lines that vary wildly in their directions and orientation. Pretty far-out stuff. I even use the perception of Psychic Gaze to draw one's view off of the page and then imply with those lines that they go on forever . . . Well, y'all know what I mean. I mean, it's a 115 class, about as basic as it gets, but it's required for one of my degrees, so . . . gots to do it, y'know?
The class is all in achromatic, which works out great for me. I am a huge fan of Black and White, both in still and motion pictures. The pieces you see in today's blog were not taken by me, and I am unable to attribute any of them except for one with the God-Like stud leaning against the bike. That pic was taken by a friend of mine, Dean.
All the pics were originally in color, but I have a wonderful program that I use often to alter photos, many of which you can find on this blog. Feel free to look. And if you are one of the folks to whom I should attribute one or more of these photos, please let me know via the comments section or via email. I am always glad to attribute credit where it is due.
So far I have been acing, well . . . I am not going to curse it by finishing that sentence . . . I know it's bad luck to be superstitious <ahem> . . .
Suffice it to say I really am enjoying all of my classes. I am meeting enough new and what seem to be good (enough?) people where I really don't feel the need to climb a tower with a rifle and change the future . . . so that's good, right?
Besides, there are so many random shootings going on (fucking cops . . . and what is the deal with theatres, man?) around us that you know I would have to come up with something far more original. Perhaps I should get a very very sharp blade and start splitting atoms . . . Hmm . . .
Along with meeting new people, however, is the frightening fact that I am also meeting new ladies of the female variety and feminine gender. Don't worry, Patient Reader. They're not going to get me eighty-SEVEN times in a row, right? I mean, c'mon! I learned my lesson from last time all-too-well, and I ain't falling for that again!
But there are a couple who are sniffing around, as it seems I may have sparked an interest. Believe me- the ratio is quite high for meeting-to-sticking-around-all-interested-and-shit . . . I'd say maybe 750:1 . . . Damn, how pitiful is that? But these are moving along nice and slow, though I did get an offer to take a shower with one of them. I did have to follow the shower up with visiting the dentist with her; she said no choosies- all or nothing . . . So I pulled out, if you'll forgive such a vulgar pun. Or not. My blog, remember?
The other one I have known almost since I moved back here to the Pac NW, and it was only recently that she and I have begun looking at one another differently than just “Buds,” if y'all know what I mean. So . . . I'll keep you posted on how that's all going.
Have y'all checked chickwithaquill.blogspot.com yet? She's not bad at all. I just wish my bud at feedyourid.blogspot.com would get up off his ass and do some more shit with his website.
Idfeeder, if you're reading this, get to it, Man!
The guy's got some great ideas and puts together some really good music. I have submitted some of my lyrics to inspire him to compose, but he says he's been too busy as of late . . . Well, aren't we all?
I am story-boarding a film short I may or may not submit in media class. I will make it a film, of course, but not necessarily to submit for these next few assignments. It requires a dancer, and there is only one person who comes to mind. So guess who I ran into just yesterday? And she said she is willing to do it.
Keep in mind that we live several hours apart, and it was pretty serendipitous to have met up with her just as she was fresh in my mind. I presented her with the idea, and she was all for it. Y'all are gonna love it. She's a butterfly, and her fields of chrysanthemums are the stage itself.
So I guess I will leave you all with that image. It's a nice one, I think. Please be all you want to be whatever that is, and be fucking great at it!
Shall I let you go for now and say my usual farewell? Are you ready? Splendid!
And Always I Remain,
