And a good day to you
Patient Reader,
What a week. I'm all
over campus going to classes- completely different, these classes,
from those I had taken throughout my long little life.
A lot more art in my
life now, whereas before it was only science, with some humanities
thrown in there for esses and geez . . . (ironic, the whole
humanities thing, no? Give a sociopath humanities courses-As if I
were a misanthropic philanthropist.)
Three art classes-
one on Applied Media Aesthetics; another dealing with Writing for
Animation and other Media; the third is Basic Design Fundamentals. I
get down and dirty in that one- sumi and and rubber cement . . . I
have to dig out my old clothes for that one . . . I almost need a
ceramist's smock!
The fourth is, of
course, Mathematics. I am still too ashamed of its level, so I will
keep that just between the Fox and me, at least for now. Suffice to
say, to my credit, there are an equal amount of letters and symbols
as there are numbers, and it has been so for a couple of terms, now .
. .
I met a nice kid in
the Basics class. He recently moved up from LA county and has a
similar family background as I do. He also took the Aesthetics class
that I am currently taking, and has a few good pointers for me. We
already decided to share a locker in the classroom. Awww.
My math class is a
hybrid-we meet once a week and the rest of it is online. A woman (my
age) and I decided we are going to scrape together a study group, but
it's just the two of us right now as we really want to get started-
time keeps on ticking, as Steve Miller used to say (those of you
Patient Readers out there who are youngsters, look him up . . . )
Let's see . . .
Those of you who might be interested may want to check out this video
on You Tube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kbJcQYVtZMo
It's
about as good as it gets. A flash mob (in Spain? Italy?) performing
Beethoven's Ode
To Joy. Keep
in mind that old Ludwig was completely deaf when he composed it.
Pretty humbling, indeed.
I want to post a link
here that goes to a video of dance; dances performed by a friend of
mine- but I want to get her permission first. As soon as I have it I
will let y'all know, and it will be posted post-haste. She is an
incredibly talented artist. I have encouraged her to start her own
blog, as she is a writer and a poetess as well. Amazing, and our
world needs more of her beauty.
So the Basic Design
class required us to buy a huge amount of expensive supplies; it was
justifiable in that there is no required text for the class . . .
which helps offset the net cost of the class.
Interestingly. My
math class requires us to purchase the text at $100. Within the
formidable shrink wrap one finds the necessary information required
to go online and set up for the internet part of this hybrid course.
Strangely enough, the text is embedded in the software, so the text
book (a seven pound behemoth) becomes redundant. One can sell the
book back to the school for 50% of the original cost which, in my own
mind, is quite the racket. Buy a book that you don't need (save for
the codes) and return the book in its pristine condition (as is
indicated by the non-use of said book) and the school makes money on
the same text twice. Think about it. So I turned my own back in
because a seen pound book and a seven pound laptop are just too much
to carry about, along with a giant art portfolio, lunches, supplies,
and two jugs of refreshments . . . one water and the other coffee.
Fuck all that. Plus, the eBook is good for the next two courses that
follow the one I in which I already am. Crazy as a shithouse mouse.
If I needed those other courses, it might have been financially
logical. Still, I did get a text that only cost $50 bucks, so I
suppose there is a savings right off the bat.
If you recall, I did
go up to the school the day after New Years, and the bookstore was
nearly empty- presumably because everyone was hung over. I bought
all of the required art supplies for the Design class- save for the
little bottle of sumi ink. I bought the brush, just forgot the
medium that goes with it. My bad- I missed it on my list.
Now, between the ink,
the returning of the book, the exchanging of portfolios (I bought the
cheaper of the two they sell thinking I was getting some satisfaction
in being so frugal) when, as it turns out, I needed the other for all
of its bells and whistles . . . a shoulder strap for one thing. As
you can imagine, carrying by hand a portfolio containing an 18”x24”
pad of 80 lb paper plus a toolbox of supplies is just too much of an
encumbrance.

Noon
Well,
made it to the library and was stood up. Sucks, right? Turns out
she wants to meet tomorrow after church (!), and I couldn't get the
email before I got here (more phone shit). So I guess that I am on
my own for this part of the day. Good thing I am meeting with
another lady-friend (can't have too many!) this afternoon. Confirmed
and everything, in case you were wondering.
So the money I got
back from the reselling of the math text was not enough to
re-activate the phone. Still have to wait on gummint money . . .
later on this month. I'll keep you apprised of the whole story . . .
oh . . . you know I will.
Things are starting
to fall into place, folks . . . I see a glimmer on the horizon-
building web pages and uploading the multimedia I am currently
working on; documentaries, recording; all that great stuff. THE
PLAN is starting to come together, I hope . . . Maybe I am just in
the manic phase of the cycle and I am over-optimistic? Oh well,
gotta make hay while the sun shines, you know. Besides, very rarely
do I ever see lights on the horizon that aren't runaway steamers
heading right for me! Doing what I can to get by . . . but aren't
we all? Aren't we all living until we die, trying to make what's
best out of what we have? I hope so. There it is again . . . hope
. . . Jesus.
I sound like Pollyanna in comparison to my usual, eh?
So
now I am in the middle of this and double texting two friends.
Sheesh. Anyway
. . .
I
suppose I should concentrate on them for a minute. It was good to
update you all on the continuing Saga of My Life . . . but y'all knew
that I would. There is a lot more to follow, too. I guarantee it.
Until
we meet again . . . which may be later today- we'll see- I remain,
That
Cunning Fennec Fox
